Honeymoon: Day 3

Monday, July 23, 2012

Wednesday we went west on the island, up to the Waimea Canyon: The Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It was gorgeous. On our way, we stopped at Jo Jo's Shave Ice. They are all about the “Shave Ice” in Hawaii. Before we got to the canyon, we went to Poipu. That was my favorite town! We went to "Spouting Horn" which is where this lava rock left a hole in the bank of the ocean so when the waves come in it "spouts." Terrible description…see picture. Also in Poipu there is a shopping area that is beautifully manicured and very welcoming. Chris bought me some earrings, we got ice cream (yes, again!), and Chris got a "Dude Dog." He said it was delicious. Hot dogs = Gross. After spending an hour or so roaming the shops we headed up to the canyon.

The drive was beautiful. When we finally got to the top of the canyon there was a lookout point. Chris, the adventurer he is, decided to go to his own lookout point. Let’s just say it was a ledge that looked like it could crumble at any moment. I made him get down…call me mean, but I don’t care to see my new husband fall over a ledge on our honeymoon!

Chris on the ledge of the canyon!
See the waterfall?! BEAutiful!
We took pictures, observed the waterfalls inside the canyon, looked at the helicopters deep in the depths of the canyon, and just took in the view. After about twenty minutes observing the views, we headed back down.

We got back to the hotel and got ready to go to Café Portifino, an Italian restaurant at the resort. We had calamari and escargot. Both were so good! I had a broccoli, alfredo-ish type dish and Chris had spaghetti. We ended the evening with sorbet and gelato. Delicious!

Day 3...Check!

Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific?!

Happy Monday!
