DIY Stained Cabinets {Master Bathroom}

Thursday, July 3, 2014

I am so happy to finally show y'all our master bathroom update. I have been working on our bathroom cabinets for the last three days and I'm so happy it's finally done!

Just to remind you what they looked like before...the 90's called and they want their oak cabinets back!

I used General Finishes Java Gel Stain. I can't say enough great stuff about this product. And, instead of me telling y'all the directions, I followed this YouTube tutorial exactly and they turned out better than I ever imagined!

If you have any questions, please ask! I feel like I have got the swing of how to work with this product. Next week I am tackling our kitchen cabinets!

Things left to update in our master bathroom:

- counters
- faucets
- door knobs
- floors
- do something with the mirror
- new light fixture
- valance above the window

  20. Your cabinets came out so good! If you don't mind me asking, how much would a project like this run? My boyfriend and I have been thinking about buying a house in the Dallas area. When searching online, we've either completely ruled out houses we see online that may have ugly, outdated cabinets, kitchens etc, or we think we could just update it (although when you keep saying it, it can add up fast!). II'm not sure what's the best route to go!

  21. I didn't realize you had tried this stain! I just tried it for a china hutch and couldn't believe how good it turned out. I loved that stain!

  22. Hey Sarah! I might have already asked you this, sorry! I'm finally down to my project where I want to try this. One question, you sanded everything first, right? I'm guessing that's what I'll need to do. I wish there was something to use where you didn't even have to sand! ;)

  24. Thanks for sharing this with us. We are moving into a new home and I am not in love with the color of the wood cabinets in the kitchen. I may sand them down and try a different stain color. Yours looks great. My mom did hers a few years ago, though, and it just does not look quite right.

  25. Wow, what a dramatic change that wood stain has made to the cabinets. It really has transformed them from looking really dated to looking really modern. I have a lot of that dark, almost black, type of furniture in my own living room and I think it looks really modern and trendy. Keep up the good work!
