House Tour || Guest Bathroom Update

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

BEFORE

I give a lot of credit to the previous owners of our house. All of the rooms were painted a decent color and nothing made us go, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!" (You can see how the house looked before we moved in here.)

With that being said, there are some rooms that we've been wanting to paint and we have finally gotten around to it...the guest bathroom being one of those spaces.

The previous color wasn't terrible, it just made the space feel really dark. That, coupled with the super cool and stylish 90's light fixture (you know the one that is just a row of bulbs?), made for a really dark space.

We had some paint leftover from painting little man's room, so we decided to do some minor upgrades to the guest bathroom.

We changed out the light fixture, faucet, towel bar, paint, and are currently in need of a new towel hook. These simple changes made a world of difference!

We are still wanting granite and new floors in this space, but we want it to match the kitchen and we haven't gotten that far yet, so the waiting continues!

All in all, for less than $200 we were able to update some keep pieces in this bathroom that make it feel new again!

PS: The lighting is making the room look a little yellow, but I promise it is a much brighter space than before! Aren't bathrooms without windows the worst to photograph?

DIY || Painted Front Door

Monday, March 30, 2015

Ever since we moved in to our house last March I have hated our front door. It looked so dingy and the color was somewhere between primer and off-white.

We went to look at doors on Saturday (more on that tomorrow) and didn't see anything worth spending a thousand dollars on, so we opted to just paint it for now. I really want a front door with windows to let in some natural light, but I really want counter-tops more :)

The weather was perfect here in Dallas and I was able to have the door open all day allowing me to paint without having to worry about the house being too hot or too cold.

Because of our HOA, we are limited on the colors our front door can be, but I love black doors, so that's what we went with. The exact color is Black Suede by Behr.

I bought exterior paint with a primer, so all I did was lightly sand and clean the door before applying the first coat. I used a brush around whateveryoucallthoserectanglethings and then rolled over the brush strokes with a foam roller. It took three coats and we are in love with the results!

This was our most productive weekend all year and a lot of what we did involved the doors in our house! I can't wait to show you our next project tomorrow!

House Tour || Master Bedroom {Update}

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

When we were deciding on new floors, we knew we wanted them to extend into our bedroom. Wrigley and Bailey aren't allowed in our room except to sleep (on the floor), but we just knew we wanted to get rid of the existing carpet.

Once we got all the furniture out we decided to rearrange and put our bed on the opposite wall. In my opinion, it makes the room so much bigger. You can see our room before here. We have the same exact rug in here are we do in our living room

I added greenery to our $9 DIY wooden wall art and for now it is staying on the same wall. We are planning on getting a king size bed soon, so depending on the headboard we choose, I'm not sure what we will hang over our bed. Also, a new bed means new sheets, quilts, duvet, etc., so who knows the direction this room could go!

Floor Renovation || Part 2

Monday, February 2, 2015

Busy. That is the only word that can describe our life right now. It is all good busy, but I am constantly wondering when life will slow down? That's my excuse for being absent here lately.

We hosted a Super Bowl party yesterday and got to show off our new floors. We are still so in love with our choice and I'm happy to finally be able to show them off to y'all!

I stopped by HomeGoods last week and picked up new throw pillows. I hated the ones our couch came with and am happy to be incorporating more blues and greens into the mix. I'm still leaning on the side of changing out out curtains, but Chris still loves them so they stay for now. Also, I don't have time to figure out what I want, so I'm thinking that choice will have to be made this summer.

Another thing we want for the living room: a new coffee table. We hate ours but haven't' found anything we love. The glass top shows everything and the pups always put their noses on under the glass and I'm not getting under there to clean in so...dirty it stays (on the underneath).

I picked up this rug (actually I picked up two...you'll see where the other one is later this week) at Home Depot for $150. Who knew they had such great rugs at such reasonable prices?! The white picture frames are from Ikea, as well as the entertainment center. We are debating on getting a bigger TV, so until we decide, that wall is left as is. A bigger TV would mean having to get a new console table and that is just not where I want to put our money right now. Of course Chris has other opinions, but happy wife, happy life.

Happy Monday, friends!

House Tour: Guest Bathroom

Thursday, December 4, 2014

Over Thanksgiving break I had tons of time to shop. Shopping led to finding new things, which led to a sudden urge to redecorate our house in anticipation of hosting Christmas this year.

One room in this house, and our previous house, that has been neglected is our guest bathroom. We have been using the same decor that I have had since my freshman year of college. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it, but it was time for something fresh. As Chris would say, "It's time to get more mature stuff." Okay, boss-man, more mature stuff it is.

My first order of business was finding a shower curtain that was longer than 72". In my search I found that is the standard size, but that was not going to cut it. It made our poor shower look like it was wearing high-waters! So, off to the curtain section I went.

I was going for a more clean look by incorporating in lots of whites. My main goal was to not have to repaint, since I hate painting. I wanted to use the paint color the previous homeowners had chosen and just go with that, since I didn't hate it.

One thing lead to another and I managed to pull together a fresh look for our bathroom at just under $150!

House Tour: Living Room

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Back in May I showed you some progress on our living room. Frames were still picture-less, pillows were piled a mile high, and the coffee table needed to be cleaned, badly.

Even though we are not done with the living room, I figured I would show you the whole room.

My main focus in this room is using different textures and warm colors. When you are married to my husband, you have to be careful of not getting too modern with your designs. I want our home to feel cozy, yet not too dark and mature.

Let's start off with the red wall and deer mounts. Lord help me, what was I thinking when I suggested we hang those things in the living room? You have to understand that I grew up with dead animals hung on walls. But, I also lived way out in the country. I feel like we could pull off this look if we weren't smack dab in the middle of suburbia. Our six year old neighbor comes over all the time and always asks why Mr. Chris killed so many reindeer. We are surrounded by city folks and the deer need to come down, period.

Now for the red color. I love that the previous owners picked out this color, but I am a little tired of it. I am thinking the deer heads come down and this wall become the same color as its neighboring walls. As for what I will put up in place of the deer? I'm not sure yet. All I know is that Rudolph and his buds have got to go.

Moving around the room, here is an updated look at y'alls favorite wall so far. Thanks to all of your love for this wall of ours, this space has been pinned almost 6,000 times on Pinterest! Now at least there are pictures in the frames. And for those asking, the table sofa table can be found here. We bought it at Ashley Furniture, but it is no longer available there. As for the couch, we also got the at Ashley's and you can find it here.

Keeping the tour going, our mantel is something we get compliments on all the time and, to be honest, this is how it has looked since the day we moved in; give or take a few items. The mirror adds light to the room while its sunburst design adds a modern touch. Our wedding picture is a custom metal print from Tiny Prints. Its sleek, frameless design is so modern, but the colors in the picture add warmth to the mantel. The candlesticks are a classic touch and a touch of greenery is always a necessity. I love how the whole mantel resembles us as a couple.

Some things we are looking to change:

- The coffee table. Glass is not our friend, nor is it safe.
- The floors. Carpet and dogs don't mix. We are in the process of looking for new floors.
- Buy a rug when we get new floors.
- New curtains. I love ours, but we really want to go a little lighter with the color palette.
- Throw pillows. The ones the couch came with are awful, but so comfortable. When I have the time I am on the hunt for new covers.
- Reface the fireplace. The 90's called and they want their tile back.

I can't wait to keep y'all up to speed with how the progress is going. Slowly but surely we are turning this house into a home!
