i gave my husband a haircut and he didn't even cry

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

It may not show on his face, but he was pumped. I mentioned here that I have always wanted to cut hair for a living. May I point out that I never said I am good at cutting hair, I just enjoy it.

I used to cut my Dad's hair. Don't laugh when I tell you that he is basically bald.

I also cut my girlfriend's hair in high school. Never leave a bunch of high school girls alone in a hotel room...they will all come out with shorter hair. We used to get the urge to chop our locks when we would go watch the baseball team in playoffs. The parents would get us our own hotel room, we would sneak out and drive to Wal-Mart to buy scissors (scandalous, huh?!), go back to the room and get to cuttin'.

Now, I am married to my prince who lets me cut his hair. He always says, "If it's that bad we can just buzz it!" I don't even want to picture that. Plus I have added pressure that Chris now goes to fancy dinners with clients. I don't want him to be the goober at the table with the janky hair cut!

So how do you think I did?!

Don't base your opinion on the wonderful look my husband insisted on giving me. That boy has the most adorable smile and pearly whites, yet he always gives me this look. What.a.terd.

Honey, you give me this look. I put it on the blog.

Oh, and don't mind the long sleeved t-shirt wrapped around his shoulders as a bib. We keep it classy at the Tucker house. About .00078 seconds after I finished I realized we have a bib in the closet. It came with the hair cutting kit. Oops!

Happy Thursday! Aka, almost Friday! Aka, the day we leave for Boston!

Have a wonderful day!

snow! it really snowed!

Monday, December 10, 2012

It snowed in Dallas. Seriously! My prayers were answered!

This picture is from 5:00AM this morning. My sweet, sweet husband gently woke me up, wrapped me in his jacket, grabbed my hand, and led me outside...to this! He said he wanted to see the snow with me. He seriously melts my heart all the time...even at five in the morning when he drags me out into the freezing cold.

He is just precious.

Thanks, babe, for waking me up for our first snow!

Now praying that tomorrow it isn't 80 again. Oh Texas and your weather...

What I am Thankful For...Days 1-5

Sunday, November 4, 2012

Better late than never, right?

November 1 - I am so thankful for my husband. He is seriously my best friend. We constantly giggle and joke, oh and we have the most adorable pups, ever (no one can change my mind of that!). I am so blessed to have him in my life. He works hard everyday to provide for us and I admire his desire to always do his best. Love you Christopher!

Kirstin and Alisa
November 2 - I am thankful for my other best friend, Alisa, because November 2nd is her birthday!! Happy birthday, bestie! (Yes, I can have two best friends...or maybe three). She has been my very best friend since the third grade. We have that "can-talk-once-a-month-yet-still-be-best-friends" kind of relationship. She is great. I am also thankful that our other friend, Kirstin, moved to Denton last month! Now I have another bestie (I know, how many besties can one girl have?!? Geez!) fifteen minutes away! Ahhh, it makes me smile thinking about these girls!

November 3 - I am thankful for my Mom, Dad, and brother. They have supported me in all of my life's adventures. They have been there through all my ups and downs and I am blessed to have been brought up in a loving home. They brought me to all my athletic events and carted me and my friends around wherever we wanted to go. They provided for me to go to camp and raised me to love the Lord and respect others. Thanks fam, y'all are the best.

November 4 - I am thankful for my job. And Chris's job. I feel like so many people are left with a college degree and no job to show for it. I give total credit to the Man upstairs for getting both Chris and I jobs right out of college. Not only jobs, but jobs we love with people who will be life long friends. Not many people can say that! Now, if He can just stick with me through grad school I will be so very thankful...!

November 5 - I am thankful for my in-laws, Ter, Al, and sis-in-law, Laurs. How many people can say they truly LOVE their in-laws?! I can. Terry and Alan welcomed me into their home for nine months while I had an internship in Dallas. They treated me as their own daughter before Chris ever put a ring on it. Oh, and did I mention that I got an awesome sister out of the deal?? Bonus! She is the best. All I ever dreamed of in having a sister!

And I am thankful because she dances with me when no one else will...

1st Annual Tucker Halloween Party

Sunday, October 28, 2012

The girls at the party. A tooth fairy, flapper, spring chicken, smartie pants, old woman, cowgirl.
Over in this post I mentioned I was wanting to have a Halloween/Housewarming party at our house even if Chris thought the house wasn't "ready."

Well, ready or not we had a par-tay and it was perfect! The entry way walls were only halfway painted and we have a lot more DIYing to do, but everyone loved getting to see the house, eat great food, dress up, and play games. Oh, did I mention eat great food? I ate my weight in sugar, and loved every second of it.

I was running around like a normal crazy person all day in preparation for the festivities, so I had about three minutes to get ready and put on my costume. Luckily hopping into my "Spring Chicken" costume didn't take much time :) Chris was a (cute) gorilla! I purposefully chose a costume that needed little time to put together because I knew I'd be baking little bacon wrapped smokies (drooling? they were like crack. no one could get enough!) and making punch up until the last second. Luckily my bestie (from before kindergarten), Kirstin, was there to lend an 'old' hand.

Thanks, Jessica, for snapping these pictures!

Kirstin's husband Tyler, on the left, looked just like an old man. He did the make-up perfectly! Someone saw him and Kirstin walking up to our house and thought it was someone's parents!

I made Oreo dirt cake, punch with teeth and eyeballs, and bacon wrapped smokies. The smokies went so fast I never had a a chance to take a picture! Recipes to come!

Thanks to everyone who came! Let's make it a tradition!

Deerly Beloved Study

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

One of the items on our Chris's wish list for a house was a "man cave." Chris is slightly majorly obsessed with books and he wanted a 'study' where he felt like he could go be a man. Being that I was given get control of the other design aspects of our home, I am letting Chris have free rein (for now) of his "man cave."

Once I complete a few other rooms in our house, I will begin designing a "manly", yet sophisticated 'study.' Until then Chris is the designer...remember I have NOTHING to do with what has happened in this room so far. Although I did make a bold suggestion on picture placement. That is the only thing I will take credit for.

And now I introduce you to...

Mr. Deer Head #1

And Mr. Deer Head #2 - also pictured at the beginning of the post

Now, as much as you may think this grosses me out, it actually doesn't bother me at all. I grew up in the boon-docks, so dead animals hanging from the walls is like candles on a mantle to me: I don't even notice. Even though once-live animals hanging on a wall doesn't bother me, Chris was asked to keep them confined to his man cave. These deer were the first items he hung. He is aiming to get another "trophy" in a couple of weeks when he goes hunting. Lord, help me :)

Ever since we moved into our house, we really have been using the study as storage. Wedding stuff, unhung pictures, and extra furniture all live in the study. Chris has been dying to "hang stuff on the walls," so I finally gave in. I am not too worried about what it looks like because once I get my hands on that room, it will be totally different...and not look like a college dorm room/library, yet a great mixture of man things and hunting, at Chris's request.

Here is a preview of Chris's version of his "Man Cave." Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Tucker's designing debut.

As you can see this room is still used for storage, but Chris is happy with his progress. I am happy that he allowed me to give some input on hanging the pictures. I didn't even bother staging the room because, well, the pictures speak true to how the room is! Messy and unfinished, and I am a-ok with that.

Chris's favorite picture of all time is the one with the turkey in it. He bid on that 'gem' at a silent auction and he adores it. As long as it stays in the man cave, I adore it as well :)

I painted the picture of the longhorn in high school. Chris thinks it is the goofiest looking thing in the world, and I kinda do too...it makes us giggle.

The other two pictures...we have no idea where they came from and they will probably find another lovely home someday, but for now, they are hangin' out in "tha cave" (what? this room has three names; man cave, study, and tha cave? yes.).

So, there ya have it. HGTV Design Stars, watch out because C-Tuck is in the howwwse. I can't wait to surprise him one day with the "Man Cave" of his dreams...now if only money grew on trees...

State Fair of Texas

Monday, October 15, 2012

Fried food, rides that make you want to barf the fried food, and ummmm more fried food. Yup, that about sums up the State Fair of Texas. Add in a couple cute animals that look like they are on their death bed because of the Texas heat something out of a movie and you've got yourself one heck of a day.

This past Sunday Chris and I, along with my cousin and his girlfriend, ventured down to the State Fair in search of a foot long corn dog and other super healthy foods.

We started the day off with Deep Fried Grilled Cheese. SO good. I had this last year and it was a must this year. They serve it with a small cup of tomato soup (yum!), pic-nic stix (do you know what I am talking about??), and a pickle. Quite a deal for Fair food.

We paced ourselves, so approximately five minutes later Chris got a foot long corn dog. You think we came to the fair to see Tex and the car show? Ohhhh...noooo...you must not know the Tuckers well enough yet. We came to gorge ourselves on fried food. Eating is what we do best. Just read about our Honeymoon. It was more like an Eatingmoon.

As I was saying, the Tuckers know how to pace our eating. Down went the Deep Fried Grilled Cheese - mainly eaten by muah - and then down went the corn dog - mainly eaten by the Mr. Still not satisfied, we set our sites on the Fried Mac-and-Cheese Slider. After seeing that disappointment (basically a cheeseburger, boooo.), we opted for this bad boy.

That is the leg of a turkey. Pure deliciousness. You know those moments in public when you find yourself with 25 napkins in front of you and food all over your face? If I said this was one of those moments, would you judge? I sure hope not because we dropped our manners and dug into this thing. We ate it like we were a starved newlywed couple living off Ramen noodles (and we all know that isn't true!). I couldn't even take a picture of it because my hands were so messy. Sorry Mom!

In order to make room for more treats we walked around for a bit. Here is what we saw.

Carver Dan by day, law student Dan by night (yes, we may have interviewed Carver Dan a bit). It was so fun to watch him work.

Did I mention it was October 14th and 85 degrees. I was wearing summer clothes. That is wrong Texas, just wrong.

We made a hot and super crowded fun trip to the petting zoo. The animals were adorable. As I mentioned earlier, some of these animals look like they were on their last leg...if ya know waht I mean...see that baby kangaroo...not looking too 'hot'.

And WHAT IN THE WORLD!!! are these?!?!?!? I grew up in the country with some weird stuff and I never saw a four-horned sheep! I believe they were called Jacob's 4-horned sheep...hmmm...not sure what to think about these aliens animals. They wouldn't turn to face the crowd...I don't blame them.

Once again, I have never seen so many animals dying lying before my eyes. Poor things.

Chris said these Llamas, Alpacas, whatever they are, have "poodle haircuts."

The Cowboy game was on while we were at the Fair (Chris was not a happy camper), but it was as though God didn't want to let Chris and Jason (my cousin) miss the happy ending of the game. Right before our eyes, Southwest Airlines had a big screen set up so we could see....I'll stop there.

We ended the day on a 'sweet' note, despite the Cowboy loss. Lay your eyes upon the 2012 Best Tasting Food Winner of the State Fair...

Deep Fried Tres Leches Cake

Oh. My. Heavens. It came with strawberries and peaches on the side. Words don't describe the greatness of this invention. My mouth is watering right now.

Oh, but wait, that's not it! Chris got his favorite, cotton candy, and I got my favorite, Bananasplit Dippin' Dots. Since we were now in a sugar coma we decided to load back up on the DART and head north.

By the way, the DART is the way to goooo for those looking to go to the fair. $4 all day pass to ride the DART. No fighting traffic and most importantly, no driving while full of fried food and sugar. Safety first.

Until next year, State Fair. 2012 is now in the books.

Many Cancers One Run

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

This past Saturday, October 6th, was the Many Cancers One Run in Uptown.

An email went out in our office last week saying there were people who had to drop out, so there were open spots. Instantly I was thinking, "YES, I'll do it!" Then I back tracked and reminded myself that I am super out of shape and get winded going to the refridgerator haven't worked out in monthsssss. For people who know me, that is unusual, but I swear, once I got married I lost all motivation. Blame it on the ma ma ma ma ma marriage. I also blame it on the marriage because Chris has no desire to work out either. Maybe one day we will get back into working out. Right now we are just enjoying our first offical break from working out since....like 15 years ago.

We both started playing sports, year-around, at a young age, so I think it is perfectly okay to take some time off. The problem is...Chris doesn't work out and he losses 15 pounds and has to punch two new holes in his belt. I don't work out and...well, women know what I am talking about. Let's just say I wasn't having to punch new holes in my belt. I've had to alter what I eat in order to make up for my lack in working out. Hey, ya win some and ya lose some, and at the end of the day, I'm gonna eat that darn cookie!

After the thought of me huffing and puffing got out of my head, I hit reply on the email and said I'd take a spot! Even though I haven't ran, gone to the gym, done any physical actvity in a super-duper long time I finished the 5k in 33 minutes! Who cares about the time?!?! All I cared about was not dying on the Katy Trail! There was so much motivation knowing I was running for a good cause. Plus, I was super proud of myself that I only walked to, of course, take a couple pics :)

Did I mention that this was the first morning in Texas that it actually felt like fall? Ya, it was chilly!

This cutie got up at 6:00am on a Saturday to come out and support his wife. You're the best, Christopher! Then he took me on a date to Bread Winners where I devoured blueberry pancakes and bacon. Hey, no judging! I just ran three miles on a Saturday morning!

We had the best spot at the restaurant. Looking at this view made me kinda-sorta feel like I wasn't even in Dallas. It was a perfect Saturday!
