Mani, Mexican food, and Moving...

Friday my babies were more focused on "surprising me" for my birthday than they were on their work. The time finally came and they had synchronized a plan that fell into place beautifully. One kiddo covered my eyes, another kept telling me to not peek, I could hear scrambling throughout the room and then, BAM, 80 cookies and 36 cupcakes appeared before me, along with a slew of the most precious hand written cards and gifts. They told me they pooled together their money and they bought me the most adorable jewelry ever. I am so blessed to teach these babies! I literally adore them and they make my life amazing!

Along with the best kiddos, I also have the best friends. One of my bestest friends in the whole wide world sent me Tiff's Treats right at lunch time. Yes, you are looking at my lunch. And, yes, it was delicious! Thanks Desi, I love you!

Friday night I was knocked out at 8:45pm (we know how to party), so Chris and I were up bright and early Saturday morning. One the list: tires for the Tahoe, a haircut for Chris, and since I didn't want to wait for him to get a haircut, a birthday mani for me! How fitting that the nail color I got was "I Break For Manicures." Why yes, I do! (Excuse the food in my mouth. I was so eager to take a picture...)

If you know me you know I love, love, love AUTHENTIC Mexican food. Yes, I do like Chuy's, On the Border, etc., but that is Tex-Mex and it is gross compared to the real stuff. I grew up with the real stuff and then when I moved to Dallas I was appalled to find out that people thought Chuy's was "great Mexican food!" Nass-teee.

Moving on. Chris had been told about this delicious, authentic Mexican meat market close to where we live, so he surprised me on Saturday morning by taking me there. Oh my heavens it was fan-freaking-tastic! Tacos, tortas, tamales, and churros were on the list and they did not disappoint! The best birthday surprise I could have hoped for!

Devoured in seconds. Forgo the jewelry and flowers, buy me food!

The rest of Saturday we rested and cleaned up the house. Saturday night we went to Kenny's Smoke House with some of our friends. It was delicious and I highly recommend it! It was a last minute get together that I'm so glad we made happen. I was surrounded by 10 of my very best friends who sacrificed their Saturday night for me. I should add that we had dinner at 5:30pm so we could all be in bed by 9:00pm. That's my crowd right there! After dinner we did stop by a bar (one final attempt to be young and cool), but ended up basically getting pushed out because we weren't drinking and we were taking up a table. I ordered a Cotton Candy Martini that tasted exactly like orange Robitussin. Needless to say I didn't drink it at all. My crowd likes to party, I tell ya!

Sunday we started officially packing! I have some big news regarding the house hunt that I will share later this week, but regardless, we have got to be out of our house March 2nd, so we needed to get to packin'!

We got the office packed, along with both spare bedrooms, so we felt pretty accomplished. We took down the gallery wall and it really made the house no longer feel like home. Everyone who came over always stood and looked at the gallery wall before making their way all the way into the house, so we were sad to take it down. But, I can't wait to find a new place for it!
Well, what a weekend it has been. 24 is off to a great start and I'm so excited for what this year has in store. A house! Maybe a baby?! Ha! Totally kidding, Mom!
Happy Monday!

  6. I can't wait to hear your house news. Now, I don't know if I've had "real" mexican food. There are some Mexican restaurants here owned and operated by Hispanic families, but I don't know if they're serving us the real deal, or what they think we want ;)

  11. You had a packed weekend! So sweet of your kids to surprise you :) It's hard to find delicious Mexican food in New York... so I feel your pain. I always fill up when I visit Cali.

Thanks for linking up for MMG :)

  12. There are plenty of fast food restaurants that serve more of a Tex-Mex style of food instead of authentic recipes. phoenix Mexican restaurant
