State Fair: A Fried Food Recap

Saturday we loaded up and headed to the State Fair of Texas with my family. They were in from out of town and so it was nice to turn this into a family event. The Texas/OU game was going on at the Cotton Bowl (which is located at the fair grounds, for those of you not familiar with Texas), so it was PACKED. We went with my aunt and uncle, cousin and her two kiddos, and my other cousin and his girlfriend. Last year we went together, so we are hoping to make it a tradition!

The weather was muggy, muggy, muggy. My hair went into a pony-tail .2 seconds after getting there. As much as I would love to bombard you with pictures of fried food, I have to be honest. I was so starving I forgot to take pictures of anything fried that we ate. There was no time for picture taking, only eating.

We all started off with a foot-long corn dog. It is a must when going to the fair. I was actually in route to get the friend grilled cheese that I get every year, but then I had a bite of Chris's corn dog and it was game over. Don't worry, the friend grilled cheese came later :)

After we devoured the corn dogs it was time for games and cotton candy. My only goal was for Chris to not win anything because we all know who would end up carrying around the giant stuffed piece of crap animal...me!

After cotton candy we managed to scarf down frozen sweet tea, fried grilled cheese, fried fireball, fried snickers, fried meatloaf, tamales, chili cheese fries, and Dippin' Dots. We were at the fair from 10:30am to about 6:30pm. It was the longest time I have ever spent at the fair, but so worth it.

My little cousins are two and seven and they held up all day without a melt down. Abby was content with cotton candy and Jacob was enamored with the games and the cars that he got to "drive." Here he is showing off his chicken hat he won at the Duck Dynasty game.

This is Boris, the largest pig I have ever laid eyes on. Look at that face! While the kids opted to go into the petting zoo, Chris, myself, and my aunt and uncle took a break and watched a children's "rodeo." Little kids ran around a corral with stick horses and competed for trophies. It was precious. During that time it rained for about 10 minutes, which helped drive some people home. It was soooo crowded from the game.

All in all I would say it was a very successful day at the fair. If you are familiar with the Dallas area then you know we have a wonderful public transportation system called the DART. We decided to ride the DART to the fair in hopes of avoiding terrible parking and traffic. I am not going to say it was terrible, but I have come to the conclusion that Dallas has a lot of work to be done with their public transportation system.

If you are ever in Texas during a time when the fair is going on I highly recommend you go! It has attractions for all ages and it is a Texas staple!

How was your weekend?!
