Weekend Wrap: sun and an allergic reaction

Hi friends, I am happy to be alive and with y'all this Monday!
Let's start with the good that came from this weekend, shall we?
Saturday was so relaxing. I needed it. I cleaned up the house a bit, grocery shopped, laid around, and got.some.sun. Yeaaa-uuuhhhhh! Chris was filling in for the weekend manager, so wife-cation was in action.

Saturday night we had a get together at our neighbors house. It's the coolest thing. One of my best friend's from work and his wife (whom is absolutely stunning and so, so sweet!) moved two doors down from us. Chris and I introduced them to the neighborhood, begged and pleaded them to move, and they did. Okay, so it wasn't exactly like that, but you get it :)
They invited all our friends over and we had burgers, chips and dip, and some pure Saturday night fun. Can I mention that being able to walk home is the best thing everrrrr?! I love having them so close!
Sunday started off with me sleeping in until a whopping 9:00am. I remember the days when I could sleep in forever. Man, sometimes I wish my internal alarm clock took a vacation. Oh wait, it does...on weekdays!
Chris had to work again, boo. Then I got a call and he said he got off at one, yay! We decided that we would go expand his "adult" wardrobe and head to the mall. We also had fun plans to have dinner with his family. Sunday afternoon was lookin' pretty darn good.
THEN.....
I decided to make these bad boys while Chris was on his way home. Sarah raves about them all the time, so I knew I had to try them out. Prepared with all the ingredients, I was ready to go.
Let's just say they are to DIE for. I couldn't stop eating them!
Shortly after I had feasted on a solid cup of the mixture, Chris and I headed to the mall. I was eating a banana on the way and I expressed to Chris that it felt like my throat was closing up. Obviously it wasn't closing up completely because I wasn't panicked, but I just felt funny. Once we got to the mall, which is about 20 minutes away, I told Chris I wasn't feeling well. I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong, but something was up.
As the next hour or so progressed I started to itch all over and it was hard to breath, but tried to ignore it. I laid out yesterday, but didn't get anywhere close to burned so I knew it wasn't from the sun. By the time we left the mall, probably 1.5 hours since I ate the energy balls, I was the color of a lobster. My ears were on fire, face was numb, lips tingling, whelps forming on my arms. It was obvious I was having some sort of allergic reaction.

After the mall we needed to go to Joseph A Banks to get Chris another sports coat. Being the stubborn person I am, I told Chris I was fine and we went in. We weren't in there 10 minutes and I could hardly breath, I was radiating heat, face completely numb, huge whelps...I tried to not cry, but I looked at Chris with huge tears in my eyes and he knew it was serious. We told the guy we had an emergency and left.

I got in the back seat of the car and stripped down to my bra and underwear (TMI?) because I was itching so uncontrollably. At this point my entire body was the color of a lobster and I had whelps everywhere.

We have an emergency clinic right by our house, but I told Chris I just wanted to get some Benadryl, soak in a cool bath, and then reevaluate. I have never been allergic to anything in my life, so I was quite scared. Chris said I was red, but I didn't realize it until I looked in the mirror. Oh my it freaked me out.

It looked like I got a sunburn on my entire body; head to toe. I laid in the cool bath while Chris read me random trivia facts. Romantic, right? After about 30 minutes I could feel the Benadryl making me sleepy, so I went and laid down. Still itching, Chris rubbed my legs constantly. He was so sweet. I eventually fell asleep, and the redness and itching has subsided.

Very longggg story short: I think I am allergic to flaxseed. The recipe calls for ground flaxseed (which to my knowledge I have never had) and that is all I can think that gave me that reaction. Although those No Bake Energy Balls are amazing, I don't think I will be eating them again!

I told Chris I had an allergic reaction from not buying anything at Nordstrom. He laughed out loud. Hey, I have a valid point. Right when we left that store I reallyyyyy started feeling bad ;)

How was your weekend?! I am so happy it is starting to warm up here!
Have a great day!!

  1. Oh no! You are such a tough cookie going to all those stores even when you were feeling so awful! I'm glad you are better! What a sweet man you have to take care of you!

  2. OMG how awful!!! I'm glad the Benadryl helped you! I just learned, 2 years ago, that I'm allergic to NSAIDS (Advil, Aleve, Motrin... basically everything other than Tylenol). I've taken Advil my entire life and then all the sudden I'm allergic?! So strange! I get one super swollen shut eye and my throat starts to close up. I actually had a reaction the day before my bridal portraits. Needless to say, I was a crying disaster in the ER (because that was the closest option) haha. One expensive ER trip! Hopefully that's the only thing you're allergic too! Those reactions are so scary!

  8. Oh no, that is so terrible! I'm so glad you are okay. It's so scary. My little boy is allergic to peanut butter. We found out the hard way but got some benadryl in him before it got bad.

  10. That is so scary Sarah! I can't believe you treated yourself without going to the Emergency Clinic....stubborn patient :) I'm so glad you are feeling better today! And...I agree, I think that it was definitely a reaction to not buying anything at Nordstrom's!
