Weekend Favorites

Flashback Friday to two months after we got married (almost 3 years ago!). Chris looks like a baby and I miss my hair.

The weeks seem short, but every day I come home exhausted and looking like I've been hit by a truck.
  • I was sick last week and got put on antibiotics, then Wednesday night Chris came home and could barley swallow. Yesterday morning he woke up with a 101 fever and looking so pitiful. He got a shot in the booty, and seemed to be feeling a little better, but when he got home from work he had a fever again. I hope he is fully recovered by this weekend because we've got big plans!
  • Tomorrow morning we are having brunch with this girl! I am so excited to finally meet her in person! Blogging is such an awesome thing and can bring you friendships you never knew were possible.
  • Chris's sister is in town, so we are going to dinner with his family Saturday night.
  • Sunday is our normal church day, and somewhere between all this brunching and dining I've got to find time to clean, grocery shop, and do laundry! Being gone last weekend means our house has been a wreck all week. Clothes everywhere. Dishes piled high. Vacuuming to be done. And the list goes on!
  • I hope to squeeze in some time to go buy a swimsuit and a couple more things for our cruise. And if it would ever stop raining here, maybe I could get some sun on my body so I'm not blinding people in the Bahamas!
We only have 13.5 days of school left. Of those, one is field day and one is our class party. I can't believe this year is almost over. Times seriously flies. Although I can't wait for summer, I am shocked at how it was only two years ago that I took a huge risk and became a teacher.

Since the end of the year is upon us, I figured I'd leave you with some quotes from my students that should make you giggle.

When editing their paper:

Oh, I need to add a floating comma!

When giving a presentation on Iowa:

And the capital is Des Moines (pronounced dess moy-knees)...

After asking my student why they were covered in mud:

Well, I was running, and then I slipped in the poopy mud.

30 Hours in DC || What to do

Thursday, May 14, 2015

Chris and I have a mission to see all the baseball parks in America. Having both played college sports (baseball for him, softball for me), we have a mutual love for baseball and seeing the parks has been something we have wanted to do since we first met.

I am always checking southwest.com to see what deals they are having and where we can go next. At the beginning of the year they were having a huge sale and I was laying in bed scrolling through the list of places to fly and DC came up. I asked Chris if he wanted to go and he was hesitant.

The conversation went a little like this:

Me: Babe, so tickets are really cheap to DC on May 9-10. Do you want to go watch a game?
Him: Ummmm, wellll, ummmmm...
Me: Well, if you're not going, I am, so should I book you a ticket or not?
Him: Okay, babe, let's do it!!

He is always the hesitant one when booking trips on a whim. I have to remind him that it won't always be that we can book trips without a care in the world!

So, the weekend of May 9th came and off to DC we went. I know, it was Mother's Day weekend and my Mom and my grandma's birthday, but everyone was understanding and didn't really care that we weren't with them on actual Mother's Day. That's why both our parents had more than one kid, right? So the sibling can make up for the child who is traveling the world? :)

Anyways, we knew our time would be short, so we were determined to be go-go-go the whole weekend.

We left Dallas around 6:30 a.m. and got in to DC around 10:00 a.m. We headed straight to our hotel, the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill, changed clothes, dropped our stuff with the concierge, and headed straight to The Capitol. We were within walking distance of The National Mall which was great since we were there only one night.

The Capitol was open to the public, so we went in and walked for about an hour and a half or so. I never realized how big it was. The inside was gorgeous, with intricate painting and tiles. The most beautiful marble was everywhere!

Around 1:30 we were getting hungry, so we headed to Legal Seafood. It was a little ways from The Capitol, but we got to see other sites on our way there.

Of course Chris had to stop for an appetizer of ice cream before we got to the restaurant. And, approximately .03 second after I took this picture his ice cream slipped out of his hand and he caught it, by the ice cream, right before it hit the ground.

We ate at Legal Seafood in Boston a couple years ago and loved it and they said that no one Legal was as good as the one in Boston. I am sad to report that they were indeed right. It wasn't that great, but oh well!

After lunch we caught a quick cab ride to our hotel where Chris changed (we were sweating a lot!) and my friend, who lives in DC, picked us up to head to the Nationals game.

Love the guy photo-bombing behind me!

When the game was over, my friend dropped us back off at the hotel, so we could shower and get ready for dinner in Georgetown!

I got no pictures, but we ate at Thunder Burger. It was so good!! They had the most amazing sweet potato fries and their burgers were delicious!

We walked along the waterfront in Georgetown after dinner and stopped to fill our already full bellies with gelatto. At that point it was almost 11:00 p.m. and so we decided to call it a night. We caught a cab back to the hotel and prepped for a fast paced Sunday.

Sunday morning came and we were up and at 'em. My friend Cat picked us up at the hotel and took us to breakfast at Ted's Bulletin. They are famous for their homemade pop tarts and oh. my. goodness! They were so good! I don't have a picture, but you can see on their instagram just how yummy they look!

Right after Ted's we headed the Arlington National Cemetery. What an awesome place. It is so beautiful and makes you grateful for this wonderful country we live in.

The rest of Sunday was spent touring the National Mall. We had about four hours to tour all the iconic monuments and museums. We went in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and the Air and Space Museum.

Lastly, we saw the White House long enough to snap this picture (with something on my lens...see those black dots?) and head to the car to make our way to the airport.

It was such a great trip! Even though we were only there for roughly 30 hours, Chris and I feel like we saw almost everything we wanted to see!

Have you ever been to DC? What did you think?

WIWW: Vacation Hangover + Link Up

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

What you can't see in these pictures is the sweat rolling down my forehead and the blisters on my feet.

DC was so fun, but it left me with a vacation hangover. My feet are still sore and I still feel sleep deprived. Monday was brutal and I went to school looking like a college kid; messy bun, glasses, a UT sweatshirt, tennis shoes, and jeans. Since our flight got delayed I didn't have a chance to get groceries over the weekend, so Monday after school I stopped by the grocery store on my way home.

I was greeted with cookies samples and went around gathering the essentials. I paid, headed to the car, looked for my keys, and BAM. There they were...half way sticking out of the ignition. Crap.

All I could think was, "Really? Today? Of all days? The day I am sore for walking a billion miles in DC. The day I get about five hours of sleep? The day after getting back from vacation? The day I just ate a double serving of cookie samples?"

I called my friend who lives close, but no answer. I called Chris and he said he would leave work in the next couple minutes to come get me, but I told him I thought I'd just walk home since it was only about a mile. It was a gorgeous day and, what the heck else was I supposed to do? Stand there and wait when I could just be walking the mile home?

So, I went back in the store and asked them to hold my groceries while I power-walked home to get my spare set of keys. They looked at me a little silly, but it was an odd request, so I didn't blame them.

It was such a gorgeous day that it was actually a nice walk. I did feel kinda weird walking with a purse and clearly not looking to exercise, but whatever.

I got home, changed into actual workout clothes, plopped in my contacts, and jogged back to the grocery store with my spare set of keys.

And you can bet I bought the dozen cookies that were being sampled. And have eaten them all by myself. Bahamas in four weeks? Ha! My motto: Everyone looks skinny when they're laying down!

Happy Wednesday!
