WIWW: Vacation Hangover + Link Up

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

What you can't see in these pictures is the sweat rolling down my forehead and the blisters on my feet.

DC was so fun, but it left me with a vacation hangover. My feet are still sore and I still feel sleep deprived. Monday was brutal and I went to school looking like a college kid; messy bun, glasses, a UT sweatshirt, tennis shoes, and jeans. Since our flight got delayed I didn't have a chance to get groceries over the weekend, so Monday after school I stopped by the grocery store on my way home.

I was greeted with cookies samples and went around gathering the essentials. I paid, headed to the car, looked for my keys, and BAM. There they were...half way sticking out of the ignition. Crap.

All I could think was, "Really? Today? Of all days? The day I am sore for walking a billion miles in DC. The day I get about five hours of sleep? The day after getting back from vacation? The day I just ate a double serving of cookie samples?"

I called my friend who lives close, but no answer. I called Chris and he said he would leave work in the next couple minutes to come get me, but I told him I thought I'd just walk home since it was only about a mile. It was a gorgeous day and, what the heck else was I supposed to do? Stand there and wait when I could just be walking the mile home?

So, I went back in the store and asked them to hold my groceries while I power-walked home to get my spare set of keys. They looked at me a little silly, but it was an odd request, so I didn't blame them.

It was such a gorgeous day that it was actually a nice walk. I did feel kinda weird walking with a purse and clearly not looking to exercise, but whatever.

I got home, changed into actual workout clothes, plopped in my contacts, and jogged back to the grocery store with my spare set of keys.

And you can bet I bought the dozen cookies that were being sampled. And have eaten them all by myself. Bahamas in four weeks? Ha! My motto: Everyone looks skinny when they're laying down!

Happy Wednesday!

A Welcome Back story for the books

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Well, our quick weekend getaway was full of baseball, the National Mall, and sitting on a plane for 2.5 hours going no where.

Yes, you heard that right. Chris and I got caught in one of those silly they get you on the plane then have mechanical issues for hours flights. I had just got done telling my friend earlier that day how I love flying Southwest because I've never had a horror story happen like you see on TV. Jinx. Double jinx.

So the story goes...

When we got on the plane it was so crowded that Chris and I couldn't even sit together. We were about to push off when they announced there would be a delay, so I asked the guy sitting next to me (who appeared to be single) if he wouldn't mind switching with my husband so we could sit together. He said, "Wellll, I really prefer a window seat...." I told him that was totally fine and I understood. Inside I was bawling thinking about being stuck on this plane for hours without Chris next to me.

About five minutes later he said, "You know what? Sit with your husband...I'm going to switch with him." I thanked him over and over again.

Then the real fun began. There were two couples who were those obnoxious, loud, fratty, wish-they-could-still-be-in-college type group. One guy kept dropping the f-bomb like it was the only word in his vocabulary and then he kept complaining that his buzz was wearing off. #annoying #growup He was getting mad because of the delay and blaming the pilots like it was their fault the fuel pump was having issues. Yes, annoying fratster, the pilot would rather stand around for 2.5 hours than fly to his next destination. That makes a lot of sense, moron.

Then there was the cray-cray mom behind us. Let me set the scene for you and just say that we are in the second to last row from the back. The lady behind us talked to her kid like he was deaf. He was maybe two and she had one of those talk-yelling voices. She kept explaining to him that here are "acceptable" and "unacceptable" things in life and what he was doing was unacceptable. He comprehended none of it, which is totally understandable being that he mightttt have been TWO! Everyone in the vicinity was just staring at this woman like, "anytime you want to tell us we are on candid camera, we are ready!" She would talk about herself in (loudly!) third person like, "Mommy is going to walk the isle to stretch her legs. Does Franklin want to go stretch his legs?" Then she would yell things like, "STOP BITING MY SHIRT! THAT IS NOT FUNNY!" It. was. cray.

(enter the wide eyed emoji) Chris and I knew we needed to get the bleep out of there. Give us the screaming child at the front.

After about an hour they announced that any passangers connecting needed to deplane to catch a different flight. Then about thirty minutes later they all had to get back on the plane...then about thirty minutes later they were kicked back off. It was a cluster.

At that point we all were a little restless. They had the cabin doors open and said we could go back out into the airport and wait out there until they figured everything out.

We had just found a plug to charge our phones when they announced that they needed us to re-board. Finally.

So, after 2.5 hours of sitting on a plane, we were finally ready to head to Dallas. BUT, you can bet that we found new seats! Since the connecting passangers had to get off the plane, there were tons of open seats, so the first ones I came to, I snagged.

I ended up having the best conversation with a lady who actually works on our town's square. I hope to run in to her soon! So was so sweet and such a joy to talk to!

All in all, we stayed positive and knew that it was all out of our control. Chris prayed for us at take-off and we made it back safely. Better late than never :)

Even though the weekend was a whirlwind, we love that we are able to create theses memories and take weekend trips like this!

Now the hard part comes...deciding where to go next!

ps...DC recap this week...hopefully!

Happy Tuesday!

Things Chris and I argue about

Thursday, May 7, 2015

When Chris and I argue it never lasts long because he-who-shall-not-be-named always ends up dancing ridiculously around me or pouncing on me and kissing me all over my face. Usually it is that time of the month when you just want to argue a little, but Chris is so good at knowing when I am just trying to stir the pot.

Our biggest argument ever was on our one year wedding anniversary and since then things have seriously been great. Yes, we argue, but we never lose our cool and always go to bed with one another. Partly because the argument is over, and partly because neither of us want to sleep anywhere else but with one another.

Next month we will celebrate our three year wedding anniversary and there are still things that we argue about that I feel will never go away:

1. Having the TV on while going to sleep. Chris insists he has to have the TV on to fall asleep and I know for a fact I have to have it off. Every. Single. Night. we lay there and the TV is on and I wait for Chris to start breathing heavy and I know he is asleep. Right when I move to get the remote he wakes up and tries to convince me he was watching. And every night he turns the TV off and says, "I'm doing this for you, but I'm not happy about it." Then we both giggle and fall asleep. I try to tell him that it isn't fair that he gets the TV on every night when I can't sleep with it. He argues that it isn't fair that it be turned off when he needs it to fall asleep. I suggested a schedule where we alternate having the TV on and off, but that has yet to happen. He does have wireless headphones that help, but the bright lights are what bother me! I've tried a sleep mask, but my eyes were always hurting and I can't put a pillow over my head because I'm claustrophobic, so I guess this problem is not solved.

2. Washing the dishes and soaking the dishes. I cook and Chris cleans. Sometimes his cleaning is not cleaning at all. He fills the sink up with water and 'does' the dishes, aka soaks them until I get fed up and just wash them and put them in the dishwasher. He always giggles at how impatient I am, but I just don't get why he can't just wash them right then.

3. Last minute laundry. Chris gets really dirty at his job. So dirty that he takes off his clothes in the laundry room and goes straight to the shower. He manages a manufacturing plant where they make copper rod for building wire, so he literally has metal shavings all over him! Anyways, sometimes Chris will wake up out of a dead sleep and say, "I don't have any work clothes for tomorrow!" and then he will proceed to ask me if I'll get up and put a load in for him. If you know me, you know what my reaction is like. In a nice way I tell him, "no." It always makes me laugh because right then he starts saying how he will do anything for me blah, blah, blah, but I always tell him that he should have remembered and it is his grown man responsibility. He begrudgingly always gets out of bed and puts the load in and, being the sweet wife I am (and because I adore him!) I always agree to wake up and put the clothes in the dryer. I guess this one isn't an argument, but it always makes me laugh how he thinks that I am going to willingly pop out of bed to go do his laundry! Boys! (And this is a totally different story when I am off during the summers! During the summer I attempt to be super-wife!)

4. Shows we watch. The Voice and some reality shows that Chris would rather me not mention, are the few shows we watch together. If we want to be in the same room watching TV, but none of "our" shows are on, we always go back and fourth on what show we want to watch. It always ends up that I stay in the living room and he goes to the man-cave, or I blog while he watches whatever terrible show he chooses. Either way we love to snuggle (as cheesy as that sounds), so I'm willing to not watch TV (sometimes!) to get in some extra cuddles!

What do you and your man argue about that you feel is never going to go away? I'd love to hear!
